Master of Education
The M.Ed. program is designed to provide relevant educational opportunities for educators to develop as practitioners and educational leaders. Offered in traditional and blended-online formats, as well as fully online for the Teaching and Learning concentration, the degree is 30 semester hours with no transfer credits or electives permitted.
Cohorts The M.Ed. program accepts students in groups of 15 to 24 to pursue each course together in a cohort. This model emphasizes teamwork, cooperation, professional support and sharing of knowledge among students. Lifelong friendships are developed through this format and learning takes place in a spirit of unity, rigor and cooperation.
Schedule The face-to-face options in Teaching and Learning and Instructional Leadership begin each June and end in July of the following year. The course calendar is published in advance for the 14-month program. Courses during the school year are offered on Saturdays in an intensive format where one course at a time is completed by the cohort of students. Summer course work utilizes Saturdays as well as weekdays.
The fully online option in Teaching and Learning begins each August and January, with a 21-month course calendar. Students complete one online course at a time in the fully online program.
The M.Ed. with a concentration in Teaching and Learning provides opportunities for continuing professional development for the experienced classroom teacher in the areas of curriculum, instruction and leadership. Applicants must have a minimum of one year teaching experience. The program is offered in traditional and online formats, with several courses in the face-to-face format offering a blended technology structure.
