Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Approves Online Master of Theological Studies

Earlier this month the Board of Trustees at at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary approved an  online Master of Theological Studies degree.  In addition to being a fully online degree, the MTS program is only 36 credit hours, making it "the shortest fully online master’s degree among Southern Baptist seminaries" according to the news release.

Atlantic Union College Update

Atlantic Union College Update

In 2011, after losing its regional accreditation due to financial issues, Atlantic Union College closed.  Since then, this Seventh-Day Adventist school has applied the reestablishment of degree-granting authority with the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education.  Last Thursday, April 18th, a team from Atlantic Union College met with a team from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education to discuss the status of their application.

Contra K-12 iPads

In a recent guest post at VentureBeat, the CEO of an app development company argues that the K-12 environment isn't as ready for iPad usage as the popular media would lead one to believe.  Mike Reiners, co-founder and CEO of NOMAD, argues that even though 4.5 million iPads have been sold to US educational institutions (and 8 million to educational instituions worldwide), most schools are not prepared to effectively use the tablets.

Philadelphia Virtual Academy Annouced

Philadelphia Virtual Academy Annouced

According to the local CBS affiliate in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Virtual Academy is being launched for grades 6-12 in the upcoming (2013-14) academic year.  The Philadelphia Virtual Academy will be a free school option students in the School District of Philadelphia who will complete fifth grade by June 30, 2013.  Classes will begin on September 3rd and all courses will be delivered online.

RTS Announces New Online Degrees

RTS Announces New Online Degrees

Reformed Theological Seminary announced that they're going to offer two new online degrees: the Master of Arts (Biblical Studies) and the Master of Arts (Theological Studies).  These join their existing online Master of Arts (Religion) degree. Additionally, RTS announced that Master of Divinity (M.Div.) students will be able to take up to two-thirds (67%) of their courses via distance education.
