Using blogs to teach

CIO and associate dean for e-learning at the College of Business of the University of Illinois, Lanny Arvan, decided to teach his class with the use of blogs. Before implementing this in his class, he tested it out to see how comfortable it could be to blog. Once he introduced it to his students, he began to notice that most students were "awkward in their initial blogging."

"The students wrote to their conception of what I wanted to hear from them." In order to change this, Arvan told them to first please themselves when writing before trying to please others. He also found that the most important role for the instructor is commenting. This shows that the instructor is engaged and committed to the course and students.
