Philadelphia Virtual Academy Annouced

According to the local CBS affiliate in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Virtual Academy is being launched for grades 6-12 in the upcoming (2013-14) academic year.  The Philadelphia Virtual Academy will be a free school option students in the School District of Philadelphia who will complete fifth grade by June 30, 2013.  Classes will begin on September 3rd and all courses will be delivered online.

The overview at the Philadelphia Virtual Academy (PVA) website states that enrolled students will receive a laptop computer, high-speed Internet access, and "a Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved curriculum taught by state-certified, highly qualified teachers."  The school is being developed in partnership with the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU), a non-profit education agency experienced in cyber charter schools.
