Online Education Growing Rapidly

According to a study in online education is continuing to grow. In the 2008-2009 school years, 1 in 4 college students were taking an online course. This is up by 17% from 2007. A survey done by Sloan Survey of Online Learning found that the two main factors for students taking more and more online courses are the budget cuts and H1N1.

Despite this rapid growth, many faculty members have yet to accept this form of education. According to the same survey, "fewer than one third of chief academic officers...believe their faculty accepts the value and legitimacy of online education." The very fact that 1 in 4 students are taking online courses forces institutions to come to terms with this form of education.
