Blackboard has plans to purchase two rival education-software companies for a total of $116 million.
Both companies, Elluminate and Wimba, offer "similar services for holding online courses and virtual office hours." Their products "support online learning and student collaboration through online videoconferencing and audioconferencing." They will become part of a new division of Blackboard called "Blackboard Collaborate."
