Southeastern University
Bachelor of Science in Practical Theology
You may not be called to pastor a whole congregation, but you have a passion for children’s ministry, missions, or another part of the body of Christ. Southeastern’s practical theology major is designed to prepare Christians to serve in leadership and support roles at churches and other faith-based organizations.
Through Southeastern, you’ll benefit from our more than 70-year track record of training men and women to perform every aspect of church ministry, missions, and evangelism. In our practical theology major you’ll not only study foundational subjects such as theology and church history, you’ll specialize in your particular calling.
Southeastern’s practical theology program begins with our Christ-centered liberal arts (general education) core curriculum, where you develop an understanding and appreciation of God and His creation, human creativity and reason, and our place of responsibility as stewards in the world God has made. As you forge links between what you’ve learned in the core and the more specialized courses in your major, our hope is that you also begin to relate all that you learn to your life and your faith.
In the practical theology major itself you’ll develop a solid foundation in all of ministry, including Biblical interpretation, counseling, and preaching. Southeastern’s core religion curriculum includes four practicum courses through which you’ll observe, reflect upon, and ultimately implement ministries in churches and other organizations. Your training also will include a 10-week internship where you’ll perform the duties of a staff member at church or other faith-based organization.
