Counseling in church and other ministry and professional settings may not require state licensure. For this reason, Regent School of Psychology and Counseling offers an accredited M.A. program geared toward the specific educational needs of non - clinical counselors, The Human Services Counseling program (HSC). The HSC offers an emphasis in church, parachurch, organizational counseling and related services. Through this program, a Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling may be earned in only 12 months by attending evening and weekend classes on scheduled Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays. Classes are also available on-line. The convenient class scheduling accommodates students with busy work and family schedules. This program is recommended for joint degree students who are not pursuing counseling licensure, and is offered at the Virginia Beach campus and online via the Worldwide Campus. However, with the online program a five day residency at the Virginia Beach campus is required. This program is designed to offer human relations training to clergy and others active in Christian ministry and other organizational settings who desire counseling skills. The purpose of this program is to provide training and practice in interpersonal skills using a foundation of Biblical human nature. The primary objective of this program is to place in the community and in churches people who are skillful and caring, who can help develop the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of those with whom they interact. The goal of the program is not to develop clinical professionals, but to train students who seek to help others within a church/ministry setting, or even within their usual vocations.
