About Chester College of Higher Education First and foremost, we exist to meet the needs of our students. We do this in two ways: by equipping them with the skills they need to meet the challenge of the future, and by making them aware of knowledge, values and understanding gained from the past. Chester is exceptionally well placed to do both of these things. Founded in 1839 by a small group of prominent local figures ? among them Britain?s greatest nineteenth century Prime Minister, William Gladstone ? we draw strength from a history longer than that of most British universities. As a result, you will be joining a long-established community, one which you yourself will be encouraged to help shape and change by bringing to it your ideas, energy and enthusiasm. Our degrees are designed to develop understanding and skills which enrich students personally, and which equip them for today?s professions. However, at Chester, change is just as important as tradition. It is by adapting our courses to meet the needs of today?s world that we have retained our position as one of the most popular institutions in the country. Our Schools of Study: Applied and Health Sciences; Arts and Media; Business, Management and Law; Education; Health and Social Care; Humanities; and Social Sciences, cross two campuses (Chester and Warrington) and offer courses which allow students to choose the programme of study which suits them best. Some of our degrees are based on single traditional disciplines, for example History, Art, Media and Geography, which allow students to concentrate on one subject. Others are closely geared to the practical and vocational demands of key professional activities, such as Business, Teaching, Health Care and Journalism. Whatever the course, the methods of teaching and styles of learning used are ones which will help you develop the skills of communication, critical thinking, and data-handling, which are needed in most walks of life.
