The Public Safety & Criminal Justice prepares students for positions of responsibility and leadership within the criminal justice community and related professions. Students enrolled in this program will study the criminal justice process and its application to the wide spectrum of criminal activity from white collar crime to hate crime and domestic terrorism. Students will develop the skills in the areas of effective interpersonal communication, evidence collection and analysis, administrative decision-making and investigation management. Contemporary issues such as human relations and social conflict, interrogation, and public relations are examined. This program prepares the student to combine the professional skills of specialized areas of criminal justice with research, analytical skills, and management skills. The student receives instruction in current criminal justice issues, such as law enforcement operations, courts and correctional institutions. Rules of evidence, basic investigative techniques and the philosophy of criminal law are studied. In addition to learning theory and practice, students can gain exposure to the latest applied technology and interact with practitioners in criminal justice.
