In 1999 the Intermediate Units of Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties saw the need for a cyber school to serve their students, but they wanted to ensure that the school offered a high quality education. These IUs, and their 62 associated school districts, formed our school. The four IU executive directors, along with two school district superintendents from each county and one parent, serve as our charter school board. Our board has a tremendous amount of experience in education, and its members take an active role in guiding our school.

We are a state accredited, diploma granting school serving Pennsylvania students in grades 6 through 12. As with all charter schools we are funded by the state of Pennsylvania, so there is no fee to attend.

Unlike some cyber schools, most of our staff consists of full-time teachers and counselors who work from our office in Downingtown. Our teachers, all PA-certified, develop and teach most of our classes. Our teachers are dedicated to our students, and have helped them become more successful than when we relied on third-party teachers and curriculum. As evidence of our success, 21CCCS was the only statewide cyber charter school to make AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) in the 2004-2005 school year. 21CCCS has also achieved AYP in the 2005-2006 school year, as well as the 2006-2007 school year.

Our students attend classes over the Internet, using a school-issued computer. We provide all software and required hardware, textbooks, email accounts for student and parent, and great technical support. We will provide dial-up Internet access, or reimburse you for a portion of your existing Internet service cost.

Student schedules are flexible, but organized to maintain student progress. We follow a traditional school calendar, however, there are no snow days in cyber school!

Students desiring a social aspect to school will enjoy our monthly field trips. Students also have the opportunity to socialize during free time in virtual classrooms, in chat rooms, and through email.

We offer many of the same opportunities as a traditional school: National Honor Society, yearbook, newsletter, clubs, and a graduation ceremony. We continue to add new opportunities based on suggestions from our students.

We conduct frequent surveys of our students and families to assess satisfaction and effectiveness of both specific curriculum and school programs and services. These help us to serve our students and families in the best way possible.

Like traditional schools, we have an Honor Roll, yearbook, field trips, student ID cards, clubs, and a graduation ceremony with caps and gowns. Students can apply for nomination to our National Honor Society chapter.

Unlike traditional schools, we have no scheduling conflicts, hundreds of classes, the flexibility for students to work ahead at their own pace, and the ability to easily accommodate the particular instruct
