During a meeting requested by the Executive Presbytery, three Christian colleges in Springfield, MO, took the first steps toward creating a “consolidated university.” In an unprecedented meeting with the “board of directors from Central Bible College, Evangel University, and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary,” these board members announced the plans to merge their post-secondary institutions. According to a press release and statement, AGTS President Byron D. Klaus discusses how this new merger is a positive measure for each of the three Christian post-secondary institutions.
In the statement issued from the board of directors meeting, the decision to merge these colleges and seminary had “four compelling reasons.” First, the merger would be a better use of funding and resources for all parties. Secondly, this newly consolidated university could secure more enrollment since it would have access to more marketable courses of study and degree programs. Thirdly, the new university would be better suited for training those pursuing the ministry. Finally, this new formed university would be more equipped to handle the educational challenges of the 21st century such as “keeping pace with the technological connectivity of the present and future youth generations.” This matter will be voted upon in August 2011 by the “General Council in Phoenix, AZ” to see if the schools involved can pursue consolidation.
