Due to increasing budget cuts, most high schools have been forced to minimize their summer school programs or cancel them. According to a recent survey, "Over a third of American schools are considering eliminating summer school altogether for the 2010-2011 school year."

CIO and associate dean for e-learning at the College of Business of the University of Illinois, Lanny Arvan, decided to teach his class with the use of blogs. Before implementing this in his class, he tested it out to see how comfortable it could be to blog. Once he introduced it to his students, he began to notice that most students were "awkward in their initial blogging."

There are a set of Universal instructional design (UID) principles that are appropriate for distance education. These principles were used to access the accessibility level of a sample online course in Moodle. In looking at these accessibility levels, recommendations were made to "improve the accessibility of online DE to learners with diverse abilities, disabilities, and needs."

A telephone survey was conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International among 2,252 adults ages 18 and older. The survey showed a growth in the usage of mobile devices among adults since last year.

Eileen Narozny, an instructional designer at the University of Central Florida, provides some tips on how instructors can allow their personalities to show when teaching online. She states that when you are teaching online, you don't have to "lose your personal touch with your students."

When Binghamton students returned to China and weren't able to access their email, due to China's battle with Google, the college had to come up with a quick solution. Nowadays colleges tend to do most of their business through e-mail; whether it's sending newsletters, important messages, etc.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Education (DOE) sent out letters to colleges and universities regarding electronic book readers. Due to not having a text-to-speech function, these devices are "not accessible to students who are blind or have low vision."

Federal Grant money has been given to the University of Illinois in order to create an "open-access textbook." The school has received $150,000 towards this project.

A study was conducted in Ghana at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology about how students perceive Distance Learning. The survey contained 20 questions and there were 691 respondents. The students who participated in the survey were adult learners in the Executive Masters of Business/Public Administration Program.
